- C.A.T. Manages Contacts, Activities and Time
-
- Chang Labs, the developer of the popular Rags to Riches accounting series, will
- introduce a new program called C.A.T. on July 4th for the Macintosh. C.A.T. is
- a relational database designed to manage contacts, activities, and time.
-
- According to Dash Chang, president of Chang Labs, "C.A.T. defines a new class
- of software that provides the individual with the most powerful information
- tool ever designed." "C.A.T. is designed for what I do, all day, " says Dr.
- Richard L. Montozzi.
-
- C.A.T. organizes data using the relational database model. Information is
- organized into multiple files that are linked together as they are used. The
- relational database model is generally more powerful and flexible in adapting
- to different usage requirements while saving time and space by eliminating
- redundant data entry.
-
- The components of C.A.T., that is contacts, activities and time, closely
- parallels the common phone list, to do list, calendar and filing cabinets. As
- an integrated relational database, C.A.T. organizes information in a common
- sense way that would be virtually impossible in any manual system. "Imagine if
- you had the self-discipline to file information away in separate contact,
- activity and time logs every time an event occurs. The computer is the perfect
- tool to memorize and organize the information. Computers cannot think, but
- when properly equipped with the right software, it can become a powerful
- extension of the human mind," says Chang.
-
- According to Ralph Gilman, Vice President at InfoCorp, "C.A.T. is the kind of
- software that could make the promise of personal computing a reality. The
- Macintosh has the high resolution graphics and a mouse as an input device
- combined with the relational power of C.A.T. makes me think that we will
- eventually see a computer on every desk top."
-
- C.A.T. can be used to manage projects like seminars, fund-raising dinners,
- press releases, new product introductions, trade shows, association meetings,
- promotions and hundreds of special events. C.A.T. tracks the status and
- details on each project by person and lets you see each project, instantly.
- C.A.T. also does mailing for invitations, form letters, mailing labels, or
- simple letters, memos and notes. Everything is properly filed by contact,
- activity and time.
-
- Further, C.A.T. tracks day to day projects like trip planning, expense
- reporting, weekly meetings, client management, prospect tracking, requests for
- information, return materials authorization, personnel records, purchasing log,
- billable time and order tracking; as well as day to day events like meetings,
- appointments, phone calls, information and activities.
-
- C.A.T. can be used to track any information on contacts, activities or time.
- "Putting all the information in one place, in one database, is the right way to
- go," says Lew Wilhelm, Vice President of Computerland of Campbell in Silicon
- Valley. "This way you don't waste time looking for information."
-
- Power features minimize data entry. For example, 'preset text' automate
- repetitive paragraphs in letters, and memos; 'preset follow-up tactics'
- automate entry of events and scheduling of follow-up; and 'clone events' lets
- you record information with the minimal data entry.
-
- And C.A.T.supplies sufficient space for taking notes. Up to 16 single-spaced
- pages of notes can be attached to each account, contact, activity and event.
- "We want to make sure that there is enough room to record all the good ideas
- and thoughts people have without running out of space," says George Chin, Vice
- President of Development at Chang Labs.
-
- The suggested retail price of C.A.T. is $399.95 with a special introductory
- price of $299.95 through August 1, 1987. C.A.T. is available exclusively
- through authorized resellers. For more information, contact Chang Labs at
- 800-972-8800 or in California, 800-831-8080.
